Tuesday 31st December: New Year’s Eve Supper. See in the New Year with Kevin and Marilyn. Bring your own drink. Donations to Save The Children. Starts 8.30pm onwards. Everybody welcome but let us know your interest and any dietary requirements in advance, contact Marilyn on 02920 596171.

Wed 1st New Year’s Day Walk • – Come along to Cardiff Bay for some fresh air on New Year’s Day! 6 miles around Cardiff Bay on New Year’s Day. Meet at the Norwegian Church at noon. Stop in one of the pubs for a drink or food if you like at the end. Contact Sian on 07788 581605.

Sunday 5th Penarth Walk • – Walk off those New Year indulgences with a 4 mile leisurely walk into Penarth and
back, taking in views of the Channel, the lake at Cosmeston and medieval village. Leave Chapter at 9.45 a.m. or meet at 10 a.m. at Cosmeston Lakes Car Park. BPL, but time for food and drink available on Penarth Esplanade. Contact Katherine on 029 2088 1572.

Sunday 5th Family walk • – Cosmeston Country Park. A gentle mile and a half stroll suitable for families with
young children and anyone whose legs ‘ain’t what they used to be’! Buggy-friendly. Toilets, play area and cafe. For more details contact gillsmith29@yahoo.co.uk or 07519 233490. All welcome.

Wed 8th Thailand talk. Join Richard for a slide show about his last trip to some farang-free corners of Thailand, including some interesting encounters with wild elephants and a crocodile while out walking in a National Park alone! Sunday 12th Craig Cerrig Gleisad walk ••• – A 9.5 mile circular walk taking in Craig Cerrig Gleisad National Nature Reserve, one of the wildest corners of the Brecon Beacons, and the slightly less wild tea shop of the National Park visitor centre (time permitting!). A couple of fairly strenuous ascents in the morning, but easy walking back along the Taff trail in the afternoon. BPL. Bring a torch in case the idle winter sun retires before we do! Sunday 19th Trellech Winter Walk •• – Step outside for a 6/7 mile walk through the winter woods of Trellech, near
Monmouth. Lunch stop at Helen’s house to warm up with home-made soup and hot tea. Numbers may be restricted, so essential to ring before to confirm. BPL. Contact Helen on 01600 860355. Leave Chapter at 9.30am.

Tuesday 21st Social Night at Chapter. Hosted by Brian D for a drink and a chat. Meet at Chapter in the bar area
from 8:00-9:00pm.

Saturday 25th COG family walk • – Walk in Cardiff area, about 4 miles, probably starting at Ceri’s house. All

Sunday 26th Short West Cardiff Walk •• – (5-7 miles) Short winter walk from West Cardiff to St Fagans village (approx 5 miles) going through woodland and along the Ely trail BPL Starts from 4 Lloyd Avenue (not Chapter) at 10:00 and returning for tea and cakes later. Thursday 30th Antarctica talk (WTSWW / WildSoc event). Dr Venables will be talking about his recent visit to
Tierra del Fuego NP, the notorious Drake Passage, the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands, and the steaming volcanic crater of Deception Island. This is a Wildlife Trust / WildSoc joint event in the Wallace Lecture Theatre (0.13) of the Main Building of Cardiff University, starting at 7:30pm-9.00pm. All welcome.
