Sunday 4th Tintern – Gaer Hill Walk •• – A 7 mile moderate walk to the west of Tintern up to Gaer Hill and back via Glyn Woods. Views from Gaer Hill overlooking the Forest of Dean and across the Severn Bridge to the Channel and South West. The Churches visited are both small and interesting. Sunday 11th Southerndown Walk •• – Beautiful coastal walk from Southerndown (8 miles approx) taking in the gardens at Dunraven, the Ogmore Estuary and returning along the cliffs. BPL. Leave Chapter at 10.00 Contact Rhona on 07816499754.

Tuesday 13th Summer BBQ – Enjoy some evening sunshine at the COG BBQ. Your host Kevin will cook up some BBQ favourites. Details of the location will be announced nearer the time. Contact Kevin 02920 762407, if you plan to go please phone him to make sure there’s enough food.

Saturday 17th Treherbert and Aberdare Walk ••• – A18 miles walk that includes the fabulous escarpment of Craig y Llyn. Lots of spectacular views and hidden pockets of wilderness. Contact Richard on 07748 883843 or for further details and train times. (Public Transport Walk)

Wednesday 21st Penarth Walk • – 3 mile walk with lovely views across the Bristol Channel. Meet 7pm at car park by Cioni’s Cafe, Cliff Parade, Penarth, CF64 5BP. Contact Gill on 07519 233490.

Friday 23 – Monday 26 – Bank Holiday weekend in Beer, East Devon – We’ll be staying in a beautiful Victorian country house, now a four star youth hostel. East Devon is an area of outstanding natural beauty and includes the Jurassic coast, England’s first natural world heritage site. We will be walking along the South-West coastal path. Wednesday 28th Cardiff Canal Walk – Short walk to include the canals of Cardiff from the Museum to the Bay and then catch the train back. Bring a torch. Meet at the Museum at 6.30pm. For details contact Katherine on 029 20881572.

Friday 4th to Sunday 6th October – Pwll Deri Youth Hostel, Nr Goodwick – A remote and idyllic cliff top setting with spectacular views and glorious sunsets as recommended by Derek Brockway. Opening onto the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, to the North is Strumble Head with its spectacular lighthouse, Fishguard is to the East, and to the South is a choice of beaches.
