Cardiff Outdoor Group is a local walking group organising weekend walks and weekends away throughout South Wales and beyond. We have a varied programme, offering something for everyone from the committed enthusiast to the absolute beginner.
Our programme (see below for latest programme) also includes evening events each week which vary from theatre trips to evening walks.
New members are always welcome. You can join us to try out a few walks or events before any membership fees are payable. Just check out our varied programme and come along – for some events you may need to contact the leader in advance; you’ll find full details on the programme.

Saturday 5th Ystrad Mynach to Caerphilly ••• 12 mile linear walk along the western arc of the Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Walk, past Llanfabon, across Mynydd Eglwysilan and over Mynydd-Meio, before dropping down to Caerphilly and getting the train back (from Aber station). Sunday 2nd Langstone and Wentwood Walk – A moderate circular South Gwent walk of about 8 miles from Langstone initially through farmland to ancient Penhow and its castle. The route then ascends the southern slopes of Wentwood for a more undulating walk with great views over the surrounding countyside and River Severn. BPL Grade 2 Moderate. Tuesday 4th St.David’s Day Quiz and Pub Evening. An evening to celebrate St David’s Day. Pub and quiz with a Welsh theme hosted by Enid at the Halfway in Pontcanna. 8.00pm start. For details contact Enid at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Saturday 1st – Llanddeusant Working Party Weekend. All Day Event (Outdoors). Join Julian for a weekend of Sunday 2nd fun tidying up the Llanddeusant YHA. Communal meal on the Saturday night followed by some atmospheric story telling by firelight. On Sunday, we hope to do a short local walk before returning. Tuesday 31st December: New Year’s Eve Supper. See in the New Year with Kevin and Marilyn. Bring your own drink. Donations to Save The Children. Starts 8.30pm onwards. Everybody welcome but let us know your interest and any dietary requirements in advance, contact Marilyn on 02920 596171.
Wed 1st New Year’s Day Walk • – Come along to Cardiff Bay for some fresh air on New Year’s Day! 6 miles around Cardiff Bay on New Year’s Day. Meet at the Norwegian Church at noon. Stop in one of the pubs for a drink or food if you like at the end. Contact Sian on 07788 581605.
Sunday 1st Rudry Ridgeway Walk •• - A 5m circular walk in the Rudry area. The walk includes some of the Rhymney Valley Ridgeway with plenty of wildlife and some great views of the Bristol Channel, Cardiff and if the weather’s fine you might see English coast line. Sunday 3rd Turning of the Year Walk, Llantwit Major • – This undemanding 4 mile walk will include Ghostly tales and tall stories from old Llantwit Major followed by lunch in one of the town’s ancient hostelries. Friday 4th to Sunday 6th October – Pwll Deri Hostel Weekend in Pembrokeshire, West Wales. A remote and idyllic cliff top setting with spectacular views and glorious sunsets. Located on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. To the North is Strumble Head, Fishguard is to the East, and to the South is a choice of beaches.
